ART CONTEST: The New York State Brewers Association (NYSBA) is hosting an artwork contest for the design of the 4th Annual New York State Pint Days Glass. Entries will be accepted until June 18th before being narrowed down by NYSBA to the top 2-3 designs. At that point, a public vote will take place to determine the winning design. The winner will receive $500 and recognition as the 2023 Pint Days Artist. If applicable, the affiliated brewery of the artist will receive recognition and 72 complimentary Pint Days glasses. JEWISH CULTURAL FESTIVAL: The Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival launches its 11th season this summer with a series of programs with a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York and sponsorship by Congregation Beth Shalom of Clifton Park, Congregation Shaara Tfille of Saratoga Springs, Chabad of Saratoga, Chabad of Clifton Park, and Temple Sinai. FRIDAYS IN THE GARDEN: Saratoga County History Center is delighted to present the return of the popular series, "Fridays in the Garden". The programs are to be held in the beautiful gardens of Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave, Ballston Spa. All programs are free to attend, though donations are welcome and appreciated. Registration for each program is preferred, but not required. The programs will be led by Kathleen Royka, with guest speakers, Jere Blackwelder and Mina Dunnum. At each talk, questions and discussions are encouraged on any gardening issue. Children are welcome, and there will be toys and games of the 18th century to discover. CREATE YOUTH ART EXPOSITION: CREATE Council on the Arts is thrilled to announce the 40th year of its annual youth exhibition "Outside The Lines," featuring artwork by pre-K through Grade 12 students invited from Greene, Columbia and Schoharie County public and homeschools. This collection is the culmination of a year of study in which area youth learn and develop life skills such as concentration, problem solving, understanding and working with materials, translating ideas into art, and aesthetic appreciation. CREATE's extraordinary annual exhibit is made possible by the participation of numerous teachers, administrators, students and their families. CREATE plans to celebrate this momentous occasion with a special preview of the show at Gallery@CREATE to coincide with Catskill's First Fridays on June 2nd from 4-8pm. Party favors will include art goodie bags for kids and "Face Painting by Crystal" from 5:30-7:30pm. An opening reception will also be held on Saturday, June 3rd from 2-4pm. If a previous signed certificate is produced, a 3-year certificate will be written. Rabies can be carried by any wild mammal (raccoon, skunk, fox, coyote, or bat). BUTTERFLY WEEKLY WALKS: These walks celebrate the endangered Karner blue butterfly and walk around its habitat. They will take place on Wednesdays starting on May 31 and continuing through June 28. The walks begin at 1:30pm and leave from the parking area for the Old Gick Farm on Route 50, which is just under 4 miles past Wilton Mall. The walks last about an hour and cover a mile of gently rolling terrain. There is also a walk scheduled on Saturday, June 10 at 1:30pm. The walks will not take place if there is rain. GAS UP EXPOSITION: The Annual Gas Up exposition of antique and vintage vehicles, tools, and machinery takes place in Gallupville on June 10, 11, 17, and 18. Step into the past and enjoy this free and family friendly event. While attending you may enjoy watching the old steam powered sawmill at work, take in an antique tractor pulled hayride, savor a dish of made-on-site ice cream, or watch a parade of antique vehicles Sundays at 2. There are also many displays of 20th century farm, household, and industry items and collections for your viewing pleasure.Catering from BBQ Delights is available for purchase onsite. DECONSTRUCTION WORKSHOPS: Schenectady County Historical Society is partnering with Re:Purpose Savannah to provide a unique opportunity to learn the trade of deconstruction with a hands-on experience in Rotterdam Junction, NY. Led by the team at Re:Purpose Savannah, participants will learn the skills for harvesting reusable materials from a real life demo project. We will fully deconstruct a c. 1810 home — beams and all — and learn useful techniques for how to handle materials, employ proper safety procedures, what tools to use for what, and more. Deconstruction training will take place over two sessions, and trainees should expect to be on site 9am-5pm. Registration is now open for both sessions at https://schenectadyhistorical.org/events/. A TREMENDOUS MACHINE: "A Tremendous Machine: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Secretariat's Triple Crown" opens to the public on July 13 at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, coinciding with opening day at Saratoga Race Course. At the conclusion of the Saratoga racing season, "A Tremendous Machine" will travel to Colonial Downs in Secretariat's home state of Virginia. The onsite exhibition at the Museum will remain on view through Oct. 29.

SLATE VALLEY MUSEUM: The Slate Valley Museum, 17 Water Street, Granville, is open for the season. This season's featured exhibit is Quarrymen, an exhibition curated by Welsh photographer Carwyn Rhys Jones. Previously on view at the National Slate Museum and other venues in Wales, this special exhibition is comprised of a short documentary and photography stills. Regular museum admission is $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens (65+). Admission is free for children, members of the military, and slate workers. The exhibition will remain on view through November 4 of this year.

ADIRONDACK EXPERIENCE MUSEUM: Adirondack Experience (ADKX) is now open for its 2023 season, inspiring visitors to learn and connect with all-things Adirondack, past and present. In addition to its expansive list of ongoing daily offerings, ADKX is pleased to welcome the return of its hands-on workshops for the first time in several years. Also new this year is the permanent exhibition Artists & Inspiration in the Wild set to open on July 1. As part of the new exhibition, the museum will welcome nine regional artists to create on-site throughout the summer for its new Inspired by the Adirondacks Artist-In-Residence program. It will once again host its most popular festivals, such as Adirondack Artisan Festival, Mushroom Mania, Rustic Furniture Fair, Xperience For All, and FallFest. PHOTO EXHIBIT: Amateur Photographers are invited to take some photos and submit them to the Photography Exhibit at the Schuylerville Garden Club's Annual Standard Flower Show. The show entitled "Road Trip, New York" will be held on July 22 and July 23 at the Town Hall in Schuylerville, NY. The photography section is entitled "Oh, What a View". The classes areas follows: Class 1 "Make Memories" –My favorite place to visit in NYS; Class 2 "Discovering Nature" – Showing a natural wonder in NYS; Class 3 "Inside Looking Out" – Seen through the window in NYS. SARATOGA CLAY ARTS EXHIBITION: May 6-June 10. Saratoga Clay Arts Center, 167 Hayes Road, Schuylerville. Saratoga Clay Arts Center presents FIRED/ON, a national juried exhibition of 67 functional and decorative works by 55 clay artists. Juried by prominent Vermont potter and artist Jessica Putnam Phillips, this exhibition features functional and decorative ceramic works that explore the myriad of expressions that come from the use of decals and image transfers. SARATOGA COUNTY HISTORY CENTER: "Saratoga County: Our Home!" is now open. The exhibit takes guests on an immersive, artifact-rich journey spanning four centuries of Saratoga life, business, and nature. The exhibit fills three large rooms in the historic Brookside Museum, itself a cherished relic of local history from the early years of Saratoga resort life. From the First Nations who lived here before European settlement to the new tech-centered economy, "Saratoga County: Our Home!" offers guests a rich time-travel experience that will instill awe and respect for the county's evolution. The exhibit features scores of priceless artifacts from Brookside Museum's vast collections, including a Bible printed in Amsterdam in 1718, an 1804 tin chandelier from the present Medbery Inn, a windowpane etched by Washington Irving during his Ballston visit, a section of the 1832 railroad track from Schenectady to Saratoga, and a roulette wheel seized in a 1950 police raid. The most recent object is a "wafer," a Global Foundries disk holding microchips. Over a hundred historic photographs place the objects in context, along with interpretive text that discusses thirteen geographic, economic, and social forces that created the county we know today. The exhibit, which will be ongoing, may be visited during the museum's open hours, daily except Monday, 1 to 5 p.m. Brookside Museum is located at 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa, four blocks from NY Route 50 at the west end of Front Street. OPERA SARATOGA: Opera Saratoga announces the world premiere of The Selfish Giant, playing for free in seven venues across Saratoga Springs and the Capital Region beginning June 3. This parable about a Selfish Giant who learns to share his garden is based on a story by Oscar Wilde, and was adapted by Palmer and Assad into a 45-minute opera for children and their grown-ups. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation needs volunteers to help with the rehabilitation project at 65 Phila Street, the 1851 Alexander A. Patterson House. We are looking for volunteers to help with projects, carpentry experience is appreciated, but is not necessary. An extra set of hands to help with various tasks can make a difference! FARM TOURS: Join the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame as we visit farms throughout Saratoga County. Guests will enjoy a unique 90-minute tour through a different farm every month, where a knowledgeable guide will give you a behind-the-scenes look at how these farms operate. HALFMOON SUMMER CAMP: Online registration for Halfmoon summer camps begins onApril 24. In-office registration at Halfmoon Town Hall, by appointment only, begins May 8. Individuals looking to register online for Halfmoon Summer Camp must first create an account at https://www.townofhalfmoon-ny.gov/ (recreation) prior to registration commencing on April 24. The 2023 Halfmoon Summer Camp season will run from June 26 to August 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost for Halfmoon's 2023 Summer Camp for Town residents is $350 for the 1st child and $300 for the 2nd + child. For non-residents, the cost is $700. Additionally, extended Summer Camp hours are available, from 7-9 a.m., costing $150, and from 3-6 p.m., costing $210. ACADEMY FOR LIFELONG LEARNING SPRING CLASSES: The Academy for Lifelong Learning's second spring session courses run May 15 to June 16. The Academy is rebounding after COVID restrictions and is currently looking for new members. Aimed at the region's retired and semi-retired population, educational and social activities are offered on weekdays. If you have the time and enjoy being active and motivated, the Academy has programs for you. USS SLATER: USS SLATER, the last Destroyer Escort afloat in America, is open to the public for her 26th season in Albany! No reservations are required, and guided tours start every 30 minutes. MEMORY CAFE: A partnership between Galway Town Hall and the Alzheimer's Association Northeastern New York Chapter that offers social support and engagement for people living with dementia and their care partners. The Memory Cafe offers a supportive, welcoming environment for caregivers and their loved ones who are experiencing memory loss due to Alzheimer's or another dementia. You can expect a judgment-free zone, the opportunity to connect with others, light refreshments and simple, yet meaningful and engaging activities. MARKET SEEKING VENDORS & VOLUNTEERS: The 2023 Ballston Spa Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association (BSBPA), will run from June 10 through September 23, 2022. PARKING GARAGE OPEN: The Saratoga Springs City Center Parking Facility, located between Maple Avenue and High Rock Avenue, features secure covered parking for more than 620 vehicles along with a pedestrian bridge over Maple Avenue that leads into the City Center, four electric car charging stations, two green spaces, and a rooftop area that can be utilized for parking and convention related events. The first hour of parking is free. Each additional hour is $1, with a maximum of $15 per day. YOUTH PEN PAL PROGRAM: Letter writing helps kids learn communication and social skills and may even help them develop their penmanship. SENIOR RESOURCES: The Senior Services Committee of CAPTAIN CHS has started a Clearinghouse website for senior citizens and their caregivers. Included are informational websites as well as virtual programs and entertainment. Studies have shown that Seniors are increasingly vulnerable to social isolation (a fact of life during the pandemic), and we have found a large number of programs which can help alleviate the sense of being alone.There are programs listed which can be accessed anytime and programs which are time sensitive which will be updated as appropriate. Most programs are free, but there are some which charge a fee. PRESERVATION FOUNDATION SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: Five years ago the Foundation, in partnership with the City of Saratoga Springs, completed a comprehensive restoration of the Spirit of Life & Spencer Trask Memorial. The restoration was comprised of the sculpture, masonry, and landscape which included the geraniums around the reflecting pool and plantings by the architectural surround, pond, Saratoga Arts building, and fence. Due to COVID-19, the City of Saratoga Springs was faced with budget cuts and reduced staffing. The Foundation is now looking for volunteers to help maintain the landscape of the Spirit of Life & Spencer Trask Memorial. A green thumb is helpful, but not required. SPAC LEARNING LIBRARY: Saratoga Performing Arts Center announced that it has unveiled its new Learning Library, created to bring free original arts educational content to students, families and educators at a time when previously scheduled in-school presentations and classes are not feasible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the Center's mission to provide meaningful educational programming to the community while also supporting local artists, the videos and exercises feature more than 25 professional musicians and dancers who have been affected by the pandemic such as Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, professional stepping company Soul Steps and Caroga Arts Collective, as well as former Broadway performers, composers and local storytellers. GATEWAY HELPING HANDS: Nonprofit charitable end-of-life home Gateway House of Peace in Ballston Spa is inviting the public to learn about Gateway Helping Hands, our new initiative to reduce the emotional and financial burden on our residents and their families during this coronavirus pandemic. ART SUPPLIES NEEDED: Transitional Services Association (TSA) is proud to announce the launch of the Saratoga Art Pantry, a place to collect and store art supplies in an effort to advance art therapy. Studies have shown that art can help people through mental health difficulties, coping with stress, and feelings of isolation. Currently, the pantry is empty and money and supplies are needed. Donations may include, but are not limited to, acrylic paint, white glue, canvases and even home repair supplies such as caulk and spray paint. MEAL DELIVERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: The Saratoga County Office for the Aging is in need of volunteers to help deliver meals to homebound seniors in Saratoga County. WORLD AWARENESS CHILDREN’S MUSEUM: The World Awareness Children's Museum is the first and only children's museum in the country with multicultural education as its core mission. For over 20 years, the Museum has provided children, families, members of the community, visitors and supporters an accessible and authentic opportunity to cross boundaries and explore, and has fostered curiosity and appreciation for the rich cultural diversity of humankind. AMERICAN ITALIAN MUSEUM AND CULTURAL CENTER: The American Italian Museum and Cultural Center is located at 1227 Central Avenue in Albany.
